In 1911, Paul Poiret became the first fashion designer to launch a perfume, Parfums de Rosine. Soon, other designers realized that a perfume could complete a woman’s look and was good for the business, and followed in his footsteps. After Coco Chanel released her iconic N°5 in 1921, followed by Louis Vuitton’s Heures d’Absence in 1927, and Dior’s Miss Dior and Balenciaga’s Le Dix in 1947, Yves Saint Laurent became the fifth designer to introduce his first perfume, Y, in 1964.
