Yesterday, it was announced that Alexandre de Betak, the founder of his namesake fashion show production company Bureau Betak that opened in 1990, would be leaving to take on a new role at its parent company, The Independents.
According to Vogue Business, Betak will be responsible for spotting creative talent — individuals or companies — from various fields, such as art, scenography, film and technology, to incubate through support and investment or to bring into The Independents fold. The company was founded by Olivier and Isabelle Chouvet and owns renowned agencies like Karla Otto, Lefty, and CTZAR, among others.
The first ever show Alexandre de Betak produced was for Spanish designer Sybilla in 1987, 3 years before launching his firm. Over 30 years, he produced over a 1,000 shows. He has built a reputation for creating spectacular runway shows that combine choreography, synchronisation, music, lighting and technology. His portfolio of clients includes top luxury and fashion brands like Christian Dior, Jacquemus, Rodarte, Hussein Chalayan, Jason Wu, Viktor & Rolf, Michael Kors, Victoria’s Secret, and many others.
Let’s see some of the most iconic shows produced by Bureau Betak in recent years.
Saint Laurent SS 2020 in Paris.
Jacquemus show in wheatfields in July 2020 (the first physical fashion show in France after the Covid lockdown). Bureau Betak also produced the brand’s shows in French lavender fields in 2019, and most recently at the Château de Versailles.
Gucci Love Parade SS22 on the Hollywood Boulevard.
The Fendi Couture show on Thursday was officially the last show produced by Alexandre Betak. We are curious to see what’s coming next for him.
Which is your favorite show by Bureau Betak? Btw, we talked about it in our Masterclass about Fashion Show Production & how to work backstage during fashion week this Tuesday. You can watch the recording for free if you enroll in our Summer Fashion Camp here.

Roger Vivier presented a couture collection of handbags
The brand presented a collection of one-of-a-kind handbags during a couture show - the first since artistic director Gherardo Felloni joined the label. The “Viv’ Choc” collection includes 15 one-of-a-kind designs that took the house’s artisans up to 90 hours to make. They were inspired by French history, evoking the Eiffel Tower, Versailles, and Marie-Antoinette, and are made of materials including velvet and alligator skin as their base. For the presentation, the creative director also designed a custom ceramic display inspired by a chandelier, its painted branches each holding one of the precious pieces, which cost up to $50,000.

Levi’s reimagined a sustainable style of its iconic 501 jeans
To celebrate its 150th anniversary, Levi’s designed sustainable styles of its iconic 501 jeans. On one hand, there is the “Plant-Based 501,” made of at least 97 percent plant-based materials, with all certified organic cotton, natural mineral and food waste dyestuff, a plant-based patch, and ink made from wood waste. On the other hand, the brand created its first-ever circular 501 jean, which was made with pulp innovator Renewcell’s “Circulose”, a sustainably sourced viscose made in part from post-consumer recycled denim and textiles. Its synthetic parts were converted to recycled cotton or alternative materials.
Fashion Career Tip
Looking for things to do this summer to expand your fashion industry knowledge?
Although summer may seem like a “quiet” period for your career in which you relax and might think to postpone everything to September, in reality, these next weeks are very important. If you put your career on hold now, then it will be harder to start with a fresh new job in September.
This is a time of the year when you have more time to finally do things that you never have time to do because you’re studying, taking exams, working… If you do not take advantage of the summer, you will delay your entry into the fashion industry by missing job opportunities that are open when you are not ready.
Imagine instead if you could secure your fall internship or a new job within the next weeks and then enjoy the rest of your summer knowing a work opportunity is waiting for you at the end of it. 😍
In our recent article, we share 7 tips about how you can do this summer to boost your career in fashion.
