What’s new at Tom Ford?
After months of talks following the news that Tom Ford sold his company to Estée Lauder, and just two days after he presented his final collection, we have been wondering who is going to replace him. It was recently announced that Peter Hawkings will be Tom Ford’s new creative director. Who is this designer?
In case the name doesn’t sound familiar, Peter Hawkings has been working with Tom Ford for almost 25 years now. He started his career in 1998 at Gucci, where he assisted Tom Ford with the creation of the menswear collections and contributed to reviving the brand.
Then in 2006, Hawkings followed Tom Ford to help him launch his eponymous brand. He was in charge of directing the design and production of all categories of Tom Ford menswear, including tailoring, sportswear, leather goods, and accessories. So he knows the brand very well.
In his new role, Hawkings will oversee the creative direction of womenswear, menswear and accessory categories, and will assume the role of lead designer for the fashion segment and fashion shows.
“In Peter Hawkings the brand has found the perfect Creative Director. Peter began working with me 25 years ago as a menswear design assistant at Gucci and rapidly worked his way up to become the senior men’s designer at the company when he left to join me at the TOM FORD brand. Since the creation of TOM FORD menswear, Peter has been instrumental in the success of the brand. He is an incredibly talented leader with tremendous industry experience, and his appointment gives me confidence that my commitment to creating fashion products with the highest level of design and quality will continue,” shared Tom Ford with the press.
In addition, Tom Ford hired Guillaume Jesel, who is the U.S. fashion brand's new CEO, replacing Domenico De Sole, who held the position since the brand’s founding. Jesel is also no stranger to the company, as he has led Tom Ford Beauty since 2014, and played a vital role in building it into the major brand it is today.
We are curious to see how Tom Ford will evolve under these new appointments.
