What happened in the industry this week? 💚
3G acquires Sketchers
Source: Business of Fashion
Brazilian private equity firm 3G has acquired the sneakers brand Skechers for $9.4 billion. This is the second-largest fashion deal ever, after LVMH‘s 2020 takeover of Tiffany, and another ‘blockbuster’ deal after Prada’s acquisition of Versace.
It is said that industry experts and investors didn’t see it coming.
For one, 3G’s portfolio includes companies in the restaurant sector (Burger King, Kraft Foods), and has never operated a fashion brand. However, buying Sketchers, the world’s third-largest footwear brand, represents a confident long term investment.
For Sketchers, in spite of registering record sales of nearly $9 billion last year, the deal with 3G represents an opportunity to protect the brand from macroeconomic uncertainty coming from imposed Trump administration’s tariffs.

Chloé’s creative director, Chloé Kamali, has been creating stunning campaigns since she joined the brand. On Wednesday, she launched her first high summer capsule collection, dubbed ‘Chloé à la Plage’, an homage to French director Éric Rohmer’s films “A Summer’s Tale” and “Pauline at the Beach”.
The collection is now available in Chloé stores, on Chloé.com and in dedicated summer boutiques in Saint-Tropez, Capri and Monte Carlo.

Arav will manage production and distribution of Roberto Cavalli’s childrenswear lines through the brand’s flagships and a selective network of premium retailers and e-commerce, such as Harrods, LuisaViaRoma, Mytheresa and Farfetch.
Gucci’s Cruise 2026 destination unveiled

Gucci revealed that its Cruise 2026 collection will be presented at Palazzo Settimanni in Florence on May 15. The building, acquired by Gucci in 1953, has initially served as the brand’s workshop, factory and showroom. It was then restored and has housed the Gucci Archive since 2021.
The collection will be designed by Gucci’s team while awaiting for Demna Gvasalia to join the house shortly after his last show for Balenciaga on July 9.

Charles Worth exhibition at the Petit Palais in Paris
Source: WWD
The Parisian museum opened on Wednesday an exhibition dedicated to Charles Frederick Worth, the man credited with founding haute couture (and being the first-ever fashion designer!). The collection features over 400 works of the House of Worth, including 80 pieces of clothing.
This is a rare opportunity to see the behind the scenes of the first couture house, as this is the first major retrospective in France dedicated to Worth. Moreover, exhibition organizers say some pieces are so fragile that they will never be shown in public again. So don’t miss this opportunity.
