Why do fashion brands collaborate?
This year has seen luxury fashion houses take collaborations to the runway and a whole new level. Following the latest news of Jacquemus X Nike we thought we would give you an insight into why these partnerships are so successful.
The hoped achievement of this intriguing pairing is giving Jacquemus the exposure to break into the sports industry authentically by collaborating with an established brand in the sportswear sector, such as Nike. It offers both brands to get creative in a new environment and strengthen their branding and values. The timing of the collaboration could not be better with the two fashion phenomenon’s being such a desired part of their fashion cultures right now. The partnership immediately made sense, with the two combining the vision of luxury X sportswear.
Combining French roots with sport, Jacquemus offers a whole unique take on the brand. Nike discussed that “We always seek to work with collaborators that offer up something we don’t have as a brand,” This is the key to a good partnership, using their differences to create something extraordinary together. And well, it’s easily said this might be the most anticipated collection of the year.
Why do fashion brands collaborate with one another?
They tap into each other’s markets to reach a new audience
Create something with a whole new vision together
They cause a new excitement in the fashion industry
Strengthen their brand values
Do you remember the first collaborations? Such as H&M X Karl Lagerfeld which caused quite the noise at the time.
We have also seen for the first time luxury brands collaborating together…
First Gucci X Balenciaga was the unexpected partnership of late 2021 with their hacker project.
Then 2022 brought Prada X Adidas with an exclusive 21 piece collection.
Fendace, Fendi X Versace was the first luxury collab to hit the fashion empire. The runway alone caught the eyes of industry insiders as it brought the 90’s supermodels back from Cindy Crawford to Naomi Campbell. This unique pairing combined the friendship and trust of the two designers as they swapped roles.
Gucci also brought Adidas to the runway back in February yet we are still waiting to shop the S/S revolution, which will drop on the 7th of June.
What's happening in the industry this week💚?
The Cruise Shows continue
Gucci held their Cruise show in a castle after a Lunar eclipse
Last week on the Glam Observer blog we gave you everything you need to know about Cruise Shows. If you read that, you’ll know these resort collections hold great anticipation for their locations…
Gucci left the industry star struck this week after Alessandro Michele sent her models down a medieval castle, Castel del Monte in Italy. The show was even held the day after a lunar eclipse, leaving the bright red moon to shine on the collection. Possibly the most magical show? You can view it here.
Nike is teaming up with Jacquemus the two brands announced this week they would partner together for a 15-piece collection featuring clothing and footwear. According to Vogue, the collaboration has been in the works for some time now, all the way back to 2018.
What can we expect? Well Nike offered the insight: “Merging Nike’s performance acumen with Jacquemus’ approach to fit, the collection redefines summer “ready-to-wear” — comfortable anywhere, anytime.”
This week we were teased via Instagram with the first-ever sneak peek of what this partnership could look like.
Simon-Porte Jacquemus spoke about the collection: “For this collaboration with Nike, I wanted to create a collection that reinterprets women’s sportswear in a minimal way, I have always been inspired by vintage ACG pieces and Nike campaigns from the ’90s. Having this imagery in mind, we designed women’s athletic wear with sensuous details and neutral colors”
The collection launches June 28 exclusively on jacquemus.com, and across Nike retail globally beginning summer 2022.
Gucci has been confirmed as Italy’s most valuable brand (again.) According to BrandZ, Gucci is the most valuable among Italy’s luxury and fashion houses. The fashion empire dominates the list for the fourth year in a row with a brand value that has increased 12 percent to $37.9 billion compared to 2021.
Second most valuable within the luxury sector was Prada with a value of more than $5.6 billion. Followed by Fendi which reported the greatest growth thanks to the Fendace collab
