Nowadays, we know what brand we wear by looking at the label. Labeling clothes seems so natural and obvious to us that we may forget this practice didn't always exist.
Indeed, sewing labels inside garments was a significant turning point for the textile industry in the mid-19th century. And the first fashion designer to start this practice was Charles Frederick Worth.
Putting labels inside his garments added to the designer’s list of groundbreaking advancements in the fashion industry. In the 1850s, Worth became the first-ever fashion designer, opening his eponymous House of Worth in 1858; he is also credited for being the father of Haute Couture and pioneering the concept of Salon Shows.
