Have you heard about the recent changes at Moschino?
Following the announcement in March of Jeremy Scott’s departure from the Aeffe-owned house, we have been impatient to discover his successor. Finally, we know the name.
The new creative director of Moschino is Davide Renne, effective November 1. He will oversee women's, men's, and accessories for the Italian fashion house, and present his first collection on the Fall 2024 runways in Milan next February.
”We have all been impressed by Davide’s extremely sophisticated vision of fashion’s power to create a living dialogue with the world around us,” Aeffe’s executive chairman Massimo Ferretti said in a statement to BoF. “We are confident that he will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Moscihno, a global house with an Italian heart.”
While we are waiting to see Renne’s debut collection for Moschino, he shared some ideas with the press that provide a sneak peek into the direction he intends to take:
"Franco Moschino had a nickname for his design studio: la sala giochi — the playroom. This resonates deeply with me. What fashion — Italian fashion especially, and the House of Moschino most of all, can achieve with its enormous power, should be accomplished with a sense of play, of joy. A sense of discovery and experimentation."
In case you are not familiar with the designer, this is what you need to know about him.
Davide Renne studied at the University of Florence and majored in costume and fashion operations. His career in fashion began at Alessandro Dell’Acqua and Renne described the designer as his “first teacher and mentor in fashion”. He then moved to Gucci, where he spent two decades, working under both Frida Giannini and Alessandro Michele. He was recently head of womenswear design.
As we’ve seen with the latest major shifts of creative directors at Gucci, Tom Ford, Chloé, Alexander McQueen…these transitions always come with lots of questions and expectations about the future of brands. Davide Renne’s transition from Gucci to Moschino is also an interesting one to keep an eye on. Will Davide’s collection be as much or even more playful than that of his predecessor Jeremy Scott? We will see next February.
What do you think of this choice of creative director?

Fashion Career Tip of the week
How much do you know about behind-the-scenes of the fashion industry?
As I have been teaching about how to get a job in fashion here on Glam Observer, I realized that many fashion enthusiasts have strong misconceptions about the industry that created an idealized and partly true version of it.
I often hear myths about the fashion industry, such as:
❌Fashion is all about creativity
❌Everyone working in fashion has a fashion degree
❌It’s impossible to get in without experience
❌People work with clothes and go to parties all the time
❌Everyone wears expensive designer clothes
❌People are rude
In my latest article “Working in fashion: myths vs realities”, you will learn some nice surprising things about the industry that hopefully will dismantle all the misconceptions you may have had about working in fashion, and boost your confidence in the process!
