Who attends fashion shows? How to work at fashion week as volunteer?
Fendi is collaborating with Tiffany...
This is Inside Fashion a newsletter brought to you by Glam Observer that each Friday covers behind-the-scenes of fashion, industry news, career advice, profiles to follow, jobs and more!
Nice to see you again! After our August break, I am happy to be back to writing this newsletter! I missed it so much, hope you missed it as well ;)
September has begun and for fashion enthusiasts like us, this means one thing: fashion month.
I don’t know about you but I feel this will be an exciting fashion season, especially for New York which was a bit slow in the past pandemic seasons.
But this year I feel a new air for New York which has kicked off fashion month today and will host new fantastic shows.
What to be excited about NYFW?
Fendi is holding a show in New York for the first time to celebrate the 25th year anniversary of their iconic baguette bag (today, Sept 9th 8pm EST mark your calendar and watch it on Fendi.com)
Along with Fendi, Marni is one of the European labels touching down in Manhattan for the first time.
COS is also organizing its first show ever
This season will also see returning to the official schedule iconic brands for the big apple: Tommy Hilfiger, Puma and AREA. Hilfiger's last IRL show was in London the February of 2020 for the TommyNow collection with Lewis Hamilton. PUMA was last at NYFW for its Fenty x Puma show in 2017 and AREA's last runway show was also in February 2020.
Alo Yoga, the Southern California-based yoga, activewear and swimwear brand will debut its luxury, cold-weather, ready-to-wear “Aspen Collection” by way of its first fashion presentation on Sept. 10 at Spring Studios. The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion on wellness, mindfulness and mental health in the fashion industry. Seems pretty interesting! I’ll keep you posted!

5 things about fashion shows that you didn’t know
Fashion Shows last on average 12 minutes
The number of looks can vary from around 20 to 100. For haute couture (which is not showing now but in January and July) there are more strict rules and there need to be 35 looks minimum.
Looks appearing on the catwalk are available 6 months later in stores, even though some brands have introduced the see-now-buy-now model with some pieces of the collection immediately available.
Even though we are in September we are not going to look at the upcoming fall/winter collections but we will already look at what we are going to wear next summer. Fashion Week is always one season ahead: the Spring/Summer collection is presented in September and the Fall/Winter collection in February to allow time for them to be made, photographed for magazines and stocked in stores.
Who attends fashion shows:
45% are writers who review the shows and magazine editors who decide what to feature in upcoming issues
25% are buyers, who review collections in order to stock them in their stores
25% are celebrities and influencers invited to the show
5% are corporate/friends of company
What's happening in the industry this week💚?
Fendi and Tiffany are collaborating together
Nothing is more recognizable than the Tiffany blue color. In case you didn’t know, the color was registered as a Tiffany color trademark in 1998, and Tiffany Blue was standardized in 2001 as a custom color created exclusively for Tiffany by Pantone and not publicly available. And there are few iconic it bags like the baguette. So this collaboration cannot be more iconic.
The two brands Fendi and Tiffany are both part of the LVMH luxury group (from 2001 and 2021 respectively), which connects some dots about the reasons why this collaboration is happening.
“The idea of paying tribute to the baguette through a Tiffany design made a lot of sense to us for obvious reasons and the fact that they chose to do it in New York. It’s the 25th anniversary of the baguette bag and we’re experimenting with many new techniques and innovations in jewelry and handbag design” said Bernard Arnault CEO of LVMH.
The Tiffany & Co. x Fendi Capsule Collection includes a medium baguette in crocodile leather, smooth leather or silk satin and a nano size in smooth leather or silk satin with a sterling silver chain handle. All styles feature the special Return to Tiffany tags. Baguette-shaped enamel charms are also offered as part of the collection, which range in price from $2,350 to $140,000 and hit stores in January.
Gigi Hadid is launching her fashion brand
The supermodel and mother is now also a designer of her own cashmere brand Guest In Residence that launched on September 7 with cashmere pieces including slim-fit joggers, hoodies, tanks, scarves, and beanies — most of which will be priced under $400.
Gigi Hadid has worked on several collaborations over the years – everything from runway collections for Tommy Hilfiger, to Vogue Eyewear and swimwear capsules for Frankies Bikinis.
“I think a lot of people assumed that starting my own brand would be the next natural step, but I wasn’t trying to rush it. I knew that something would come to me that felt right, that had integrity to it.” the model said to Vogue.
Gigi began thinking about this idea when the world went into lockdown, pregnant with her daughter Khai. So it’s been a 3-year-in-the-making project.
Stella McCartney is launching a clean and sustainable skincare brand
Beauty is a big business for fashion companies. Mainly because it’s the entry-level option for those who want to be part of that brand but cannot yet afford a luxury product. Valentino launched its make-up collection last year, Balmain is negotiating the launch of its beauty line with Estee Lauder Companies and Stella McCartney has just released its minimal beauty line STELLA.
Launched in partnership with LVMH and based on Stella’s personal philosophy of using ‘only what you need’, the first range consists of three essential products: Reset Cleanser, Alter-Care Serum and Restore Cream. All the products, made with at least 99% natural-origin ingredients, will be available on www.stellamccartneybeauty.com
Narciso Rodriguez for Zara
The legendary American designer Narciso Rodriguez who worked at houses like Calvin Klein and Loewe, before founding his own namesake label and building a mini perfume empire along the way, has partnered with the Spanish giant Zara for a limited capsule collection. The pieces of Narciso Rodriguez for Zara replicate his most winning looks: for example the red dress originally from his spring/summer 2018 collection, and the black bustier look harkens back to fall/winter 1998.

The Brooklyn Museum announces Thierry Mugler exhibit

Fashion Career Tip of the Week
We are excited for this new fashion month that has just begun, but if so far you’ve only looked at fashion weeks as an exciting moment to watch the latest collections from your favorite fashion designers, you should know that this can also be a great career opportunity if you want to get into fashion and you still have no or little experience. You can in fact get a job during fashion week and work as a volunteer.
