What's happening in the industry this week?💚
Harper’s Bazaar France launched its first print issue
A new fashion magazine saw its day this Thursday in France - Harper’s Bazaar - releasing 4 covers shot by Mario Sorrenti. The French edition is completely independent from the U.S. edition and will keep a culturally French focus. Indeed, the editor-in-chief Olivier Lalanne shared with WWD that “independence is key to developing the Harper’s Bazaar brand in France”. The magazine’s target reader is a woman of 30 to 35 years old who is “cultivated, informed and makes money”.
Anna Dello Russo collaborates with Max & Co
The capsule collection called “De-Coated” was presented on Wednesday during Milan Fashion Week and revolves around a single item, the coat. “As soon as we started discussing the idea, I knew I wanted to start from overcoats. With climate change and warmer winters they are so little used and for a short period of time during the year. They sit in our wardrobes most of the time,” said Anna Dello Russo to WWD. The pattern was dissected into different garments such as a blazer, minidress, or cropped bomber; its back was repurposed as a pencil skirt, and its sleeves as bandeau tops and corsets.
H&M collaborates with Mugler
The Swedish retailer announced on Wednesday its new collaboration with Mugler, saying it will “encapsulate the unique and vibrant spirit of Mugler”.The collection will be available in spring 2023.
Ahluwalia launched a footwear line
The U.K. fashion brand, founded by Priya Ahluwalia, unveiled its first 11-piece shoe collection during its fall 2023 runway show at London Fashion Week. Inspired by Indian and Nigerian footwear (influences that are often seen across the brand’s collections), it includes different kinds of shoes - loafers, boots, heels, mules - and comes in multiple colorways, but the signature shoe is the “A Wedge” model which features the letter “A” serving as the heel of the shoe. Prices will range from $470 to $1,200.
Louise Trotter is Carven’s new creative director
The first collection under the creative direction of Louise Trotter will be shown during Paris Fashion Week in September. Her appointment is expected to revive the house as the brand has been absent from the runway since 2018 when the last creative director Serge Ruffieux left the French house.
Before assuming this new role, Louise Trotter worked as buying and design director at Whistles, vice-president of womenswear design at Gap, head of womenswear at Calvin Klein, designer at Tommy Hilfiger, and creative director at Jigsaw, Joseph, and lately Lacoste.
Nao Takekoshi is Wolford’s new artistic director
“The arrival of Nao Takekoshi (who is no stranger to the brand as he designer a capsule collection back in 2021) marks an important step in Wolford’s strategic development based on strengthening and modernizing the brand’s essential and iconic styles, fashion bases for every woman’s wardrobe while preserving a consistent global brand,” the company said in a statement to WWD.
Nao Takekoshi graduated from the Parsons School of Design and began his career at Issey Miyake in Tokyo. He then worked for Cerruti, and Gucci, and was Head designer at Donna Karan and Jil Sander, as well as creative director for Allegri in Florence. He has also consulted top fashion brands like Burberry, Calvin Klein, and Ermenegildo Zegna, among others.
The Victoria and Albert Museum will unveil David Bowie Archive
The London museum secured rights to the David Bowie archive which will open in 2025 at the museum’s East Storehouse in Stratford. It will contain more than 80,000 items connected to the music and fashion career of the late artist, including handwritten lyrics, letters, sheet music, original costumes, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs, David Bowie’s own instruments, album artwork, and awards. The majority of these have never been seen by the public.
Armani hosts an exhibition dedicated to Guy Bourdin
The “Guy Bourdin: Storyteller” exhibition, running from today Feb 24 until August 31, 2023, at Armani/Silos, pays tribute to the work of French photographer Guy Bourdin. Giorgio Armani and the Guy Bourdin Estate have selected one hundred photographs, including both iconic shots and lesser-known images.
