The fashion industry is dynamic and continually reinventing itself, and one of the more fascinating and unconventional trends to emerge in recent years is Normcore.
The term” Normcore” was introduced quite recently, on October 19, 2013, by a trend-casting group K-hole, which mentioned the term in their report "Youth mode: a Report on Freedom." It emerged as a reaction against the extravagant fashion trends of the time.
Rejecting trends that prioritize the extraordinary or extravagant, Normcore finds beauty in the ordinary.
Nowadays, normcore is a fashion trend that refers to everyday, low-key wardrobe staples that create a very basic, down-to-earth look.
Normcore can be recognized by:
Basic pieces, such as button-down shirts, trousers, straightforward belts, high-waisted jeans, dad sneakers, flat sandals…
Mostly a neutral color palette: black, white, beige, etc.
A total absence of prints, or at least no bold prints.
Some brands known for their normcore aesthetic include Birkenstock, Uniqlo, and New Balance. Some luxury houses like Miu Miu and Jacquemus also include normcore pieces in their product assortment.
The normcore aesthetic could sound similar to a minimalist one but there are some differences.
