As we are heading towards the end of the year, the fashion industry starts to do a retrospective of the most memorable fashion moments of 2022. So today, we are covering 8 top moments according to Lyst’s “A year in fashion 2022” review.
Brand of the year: Miu Miu
Miu Miu was the brand to watch this year. It was particularly the brand’s mini skirt and ballet flats that were the It items of the year. The latter actually became the most popular product on Lyst shortly after their release. According to the source, the highly anticipated return of menswear for FW 2022 and a SS23 collection generated over 23 million views on Tik Tok, and searches for the label increased 34% year-on-year.
Brand to watch: Luar
The brand to watch in 2022 is the New-York based Luar, known for its signature Ana bag, which received an increase in demand of 106% year-on-year according to Lyst. The brand’s creative director Raul Lopez recently won the 2022 CFDA American Accessory Designer of the Year award.
Trend of the year: the Valentino pink
The brand that owned the pink color this year is Valentino, with the creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli’s PP campaigns and stores around the world. The color was introduced in the FW23 runway, after which the searches increased by 152%, and the collection has generated more than 76.9M views on Tik Tok.
The obsession for pink also came from the Barbie aesthetic that was popular this year, especially with the released images of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling wearing pink on the set of the upcoming Barbie movie, a trend that made the search for pink things increase to 416%.
Logo of the year: Diesel
As this year was Glenn Martens’ first fashion show as creative director, in April, Diesel became one of the hottest brands of the year, ranked 15 in the Lyst Index for the first time. The brand repositioned itself as a luxury brand and expanded its assortment to accessories, and so in June, the 1DR bag became the most wanted accessory.
Collaboration of the year: Nike and Jacquemus
Though this year saw plenty of collaborations between different brands, the one that stood out according to Lyst is the Nike-Jacquemus one. The two presented their 15-piece collection in June 2022, which sold out within a few minutes and generated a 2,575% rise in searches on the internet.
Fashion show of the year: Balenciaga’s AW 22-23
The fashion show of the year according to Lyst is Balenciaga’s Autumn/Winter 2022-2023 one with Nicole Kidman, Kim Kardashian, Dua Lipa, and other iconic stars and models walking down the runway. The presentation revealed denim pieces elevated with a couture twist and upcycled vintage pieces that made up over 25% of the collection. After this show, online searches for Balenciaga Couture spiked 525% in just 24 hours.
Viral moment of the year: the Coperni spray-on dress
One of the most memorable moments from this year’s fashion shows and in the history of fashion is Coperni’s spray-on dress that was painted live on Bella Hadid at the brand’s Spring/Summer 2023 show in Paris. It became a buzz on social media, especially on Tik Tok which gathered over 1M views for #CoperniDress videos, and the day after the show, Coperni received a 3,000% increase in searches and so became one of the most searched brands during the fashion week month.
Progressive moment of the year: Patagonia’s ownership transfer
One sustainable moment of the year highlighted by Lyst is when Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, transferred his ownership of the company, which is valued at about $3 billion, to the Patagonia Purpose Trust in September, as a way to fight for climate change. The news made searches for Patagonia products increase by 42% on Lyst.
Which other moment that was memorable to you would you add to the list?
