In fashion, it’s interesting to see how a designer’s fascination with things like numbers and flowers made them part of the brand’s identity. A well-known example is Coco Chanel, whose lucky number 5 and the camellia became intrinsically linked with the iconic French house. But she wasn’t the only superstitious fashion designer.
Christian Dior was also a very superstitious man. He was fascinated with astrology, went to clairvoyants, and turned lucky charms into his house symbols. These charms included a four-leaf clover, a star, the number 8, and his favorite flower – the lily of the valley (“Muguet” in French)- which we will talk about today.
“Flowers for Spring? Groundbreaking,” as Miranda Priestly once said. Well, it was for Monsieur Dior. He always carried a sprig of lily of the valley in his pocket, pinned it to his lapel, and had it sewn into the hems of some of his designs for good fortune.
