Many of you who read this Inside Fashion newsletter are interested in getting a job in fashion, and so I wanted to address a common problem that many aspiring writers, designers, and buyers…face when looking for a fashion job, and share my secret that will help you land a job in fashion quickly.
My students often come to me with insecurities about working in fashion, such as the lack of experience, no fashion degree, and not having enough skills.
While many believe that you need to have a sense of style and many creative skills to work in the industry, the reality is different than you might expect.
The most frequently requested skill in fashion is…🥁
Microsoft Excel.
Fact: Fashion professionals use Excel every single day in their fashion jobs - not just the analytical and number-oriented ones, but also in creative roles. That's why recruiters prefer to hire people who understand the program already (yep, even for internships!)
Whatever fashion career you are pursuing, creative or business-oriented, Excel is a must-have skill:
✨To land jobs and internships (90% of job descriptions mention Excel in their requirements)
✨To pass job interview tests (yep, did you know I was tested on Excel to land my internship at Alexander McQueen?)
✨For career prospects
So if you don’t master this program yet, or you know it on the generic level but not how to apply it to the fashion industry, it’s time to change that, and I have good news for you 🤩
I invite you to join my FREE webinar about Excel where you’ll learn about:
My experience with Microsoft Excel in the fashion industry working at Alexander McQueen
What different roles in fashion (buyers, stylists, pr managers, etc.) use Excel for
Why Excel will get you more job opportunities in fashion
4 Excel formulas to impress your fashion boss or recruiters and pass the job interview test
