When we think about the beginnings of famous fashion houses, we often picture women’s ready-to-wear collections as the launching point. But not all iconic designers started there. Coco Chanel began as a milliner, Hermès specialized in equestrian accessories, and Ralph Lauren made his name with ties. Interestingly, Jeanne Lanvin, who began her career as a hat designer in 1889, earned early fame as a children's fashion designer, the first of her kind.
