Today, the famous costume designer Patricia Field turned 83 years old, and we want to celebrate her birthday with a dedicated post.

You might know Patricia for her work on the set of fashionable movies and series like Sex and the City, The Devil Wears Prada, and Emily in Paris, but her main life’s work that spanned 5 decades was her namesake store. 

Let’s discover Patricia Field’s career in retail from when she was a young girl to the present day. 

Chapter 1: The first jobs 

Patricia Field has always been a hard worker. As a teenager, she helped her mother in the dry-cleaning store and worked for a while at the supermarket wrapping meat. 

In 1963, she graduated from New York University (NYU) with a dual degree in philosophy and political science, but she didn’t know how to put the gained knowledge into practice, given she didn’t see herself in academia or politics. 

One day, Patricia noticed a job ad at Alexander’s discount department store in the South Bronx and applied there. She started working in sales at the accessory department
