What happened in the industry this week? 💚
Jacquemus celebrated its 15th anniversary in Capri
Happy 15th birthday Jacquemus💛To celebrate this milestone, Simon Porte Jacquemus presented his “La Casa” collection for Fall/Winter 2024-2025 at the Villa Malaparte in Capri. It was the designer’s “biggest dream since starting 15 years ago,” according to Vogue to stage a show at this location after watching Jean-Luc Godard's film “Le Mépris”. The location was only accessible by boat for the 40 guests.
Max Mara staged its Resort 2025 show in Venice
Ian Griffiths’ collection was unveiled Tuesday night in the 14th-century Palazzo Ducale in Venice. It paid homage to the renowned merchant and traveler Marco Polo. The designer reprised some designs from his final degree collection from June 1985, “based on the sketchbooks [he] started in Venice,” according to Vogue, and brought to life with a final year textiles student, Caroline Daly. The prints they used were inspired by the mosaics of San Marco in Venice and were replicated in the final looks of the latest collection.
Men’s Fashion Week Spring 2025
The Spring 2025 Men’s Fashion Week started its European tour.
It started with a small fashion week-end in London, between June 7-9. In addition to fashion shows, the British Fashion Council organized a series of cultural events, exhibitions, and a 40x40 program with 40 events to celebrate the 40th anniversary of LFW.
At Pitti Uomo in Florence (11 – 14 June 2024,) Marine Serre was invited as a guest designer and made her runway menswear debut. Another highlight was Paul Smith, who made his return to the trade show on June 11 after 31 years.
Milan Men’s Fashion Week was opened today by Moschino’s creative director Adrian Appiolaza who unveiled the brand’s first menswear show since SS23 together with the Women's Resort 2025 collection.
The next stop is Paris (18-23 June) where one of the anticipated shows is the one of Dries Van Noten, who will present his final menswear collection on June 22.
Giorgio Armani is heading to New York
The Italian designer will travel to New York this fall to celebrate the opening of his brand’s new building on Madison Avenue, an Armani/Ristorante, and the new Giorgio Armani and Armani/Casa stores. The opening event - a fashion show - is scheduled for October 17 and will be followed by a party.
New exhibition about Walter Albini in Italy
Prato’s Museo del Tessuto in Tuscany dedicated its recent exhibition to the late fashion designer Walter Albini and his career that spanned more than 20 years between the late 1960s and early 1980s. “Walter Albini. The talent, the designer” was curated by Degl’Innocenti with Enrica Morini, fashion historian and lecturer at IULM University of Milan, and will run until Sept. 22.
Walter Albini was one of the most prominent figures of Italian fashion between the mid-1960s and early 1980s, who pioneered Italian Prêt-à-Porter. He launched his namesake brand in 1973 and created a complete ready-to-wear collection which, for the first time, was sold as a whole to stores. He also pioneered Milan Fashion Week (as we call it today,) moving the presentations from Florence to Milan. This was a revolutionary move since Florence was the first Italian fashion capital before Milan became and remained the epicenter of Italian fashion.
Not much has been spoken of Walter Albini since the brand’s founder passed away in 1983. However, last May, Switzerland-based investment platform Bidayat acquired the intellectual property and a substantial part of the archives of Walter Albini and announced its plans to relaunch the brand “to create awareness and recognition about the legacy of Walter Albini and his transformative impact on the fashion industry with plans to revive the iconic brand”, Bidayat said in a statement. The launch date hasn’t been confirmed yet.
