Bulgari named its first-ever creative director of leather goods and accessories. Her name is Mary Katrantzou.
In case you are not very familiar with the designer, here is a little bit about her background.
Mary Katrantzou is a Greek fashion designer. Born in Athens in 1983, she moved to the U.S. to study architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design, before transferring to Central Saint Martins, graduating with a BA in Textile design and an MA in Fashion.
Her graduate 2008 show for the Spring - Summer 2009 season introduced her signature trompe l’oeil prints in the shape of necklaces on jersey-bonded dresses. The collection immediately caught the eye of fashion industry professionals and was picked up by stockists like Browns, Colette, and Joyce. The press dubbed Mary Katrantzou “The Queen of Print".
After her first triumphant show, Mary Katrantzou established her namesake brand the same year. Her first ready-to-wear collection debuted at London Fashion Week during the Fall 2009 season with the help of the British Fashion Council's NEWGEN sponsorship program.
The prominent designer has received various awards throughout her career, including the Swiss Textiles Award of 2010 in recognition of her pioneering textile treatments, and the British Fashion Award for Emerging Talent in 2011. In 2015, she also received the Vogue Designer Fashion Fund.
Katrantzou did many prestigious collaborations with brands like Victoria’s Secret, Longchamp, Moncler, Topshop, and Adidas Originals, and developed a long-lasting relationship with BVLGARI.
The designer first collaborated with the Roman jewelry house in 2019 when she showcased her first Spring/Summer 2020 couture show at the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio, Greece, using pieces from the Bulgari Heritage High Jewelry collection.
In 2021, Katrantzou and Bulgari released their first iconic collaboration with a line of reimagined Serpenti bags. In 2023, they released a second capsule collection of bejeweled bags.
Mary Katrantzou’s first collection as the creative director of leather goods and accessories of Bulgari will hit the stores in August 2024. We look forward to discovering it and following her creative path at Bulgari 🩵
