NYFW is back and Donna Karan is as well!
The Fall 2024 season finally kicks off today in New York and will run until Feb 14. More than 70 confirmed designers will unveil their latest collections; additional ones will be presented digitally and by appointment.
You can view the official schedule here and watch your favorite shows on the brands’ official websites and social media platforms.
Which shows are you looking most forward to? Speaking of big returns we cannot not mention Donna Karan. Did you hear the news? Or perhaps spotted a photo that was all over Instagram?
G-III group, which acquired Donna Karan International Inc. in 2016 from LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton for $650 million, relaunched the brand on Thursday. The spring Donna Karan New York collection is a nod to the original capsule collection made of “Seven Easy Pieces”, launched in 1985, and also includes accessories and footwear inspired by thousands of archival looks. The brand describes the new collection as “a new era of accessible luxury”, retailed between $159 and $599.
The spring campaign “In Women We Trust,” (the title of the original 1992 campaign) and photographed by Annie Leibovitz is graced by fashion’s beloved supermodels Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Amber Valletta, Shalom Harlow, Carolyn Murphy, Imaan Hammam, Karlie Kloss and Liya Kebede.
On the occasion of the relaunch, the brand also introduced a new fragrance collection dubbed “Cashmere Collection” - the first under the licensee Inter Parfums Inc (the brand was previously under the Estée Lauder Cos.)
To celebrate this great news, we want to share a short history of Donna Karan New York.
Donna Karan launched her eponymous label in 1985 with a first collection called “Seven Easy Pieces” which included a bodysuit, a tailored jacket, a skirt, pants, a cashmere sweater, a leather jacket, and an evening look, and pioneered the concept of the capsule collection.
“Seven Easy Pieces” reflected Donna Karan’s wish to “design modern clothes for modern people”. She intuitively understood the needs and desires of modern women and wanted to simplify their lives without sacrificing elegance or sensuality.
What started with the capsule collection later extended to the creation in 1988 of a diffusion line called DKNY.
In 1990, DKNY was followed by the launch of DKNY Jeans, a denim-inspired collection, DKNY for men in 1991, and D by DKNY, another secondary line, in 1996. Today, DKNY also offers bags, shoes, fragrances, and home supplies.
Donna Karan privately owned the company with her late husband, Stephan Weiss, but sold it to LVMH for $243 million in 2001 and stepped down from her role as chief designer in 2015.
Do you like the new collection?
What happened in the industry this week? 💚
Zac Posen is the new creative director of Gap Inc
The famous celebrity designer who shut his eponymous label in 2019, was tapped by Gap Inc. to oversee its 4 brands: Gap, Banana Republic, Athleta, and Old Navy. He will also serve as executive vice president of the group and Old Navy’s chief creative officer. Zac Posen will be working closely with Gap Inc president and CEO Richard Dickson as his “cultural curator and creative partner”.
This is an unexpected but interesting and strategic move. It’s the first time GAP has had one designer overseeing all of its brands, and it’s the most high-profile designer appointment for the company in years since Patrick Robinson exited his role as the Gap brand’s chief designer in 2011. Zac Posen is now tasked with the responsibility of reinvigorating the company’s entire portfolio and saving the group from difficult times. Gap is indeed struggling to maintain its relevance, which is reflected in a decrease in revenues; at November’s third-quarter earnings, Gap Inc.’s revenues were down 7% year-on-year, at $3.8 billion, according to Vogue Business.
We look forward to seeing how the Zac Posen x Gap duo works. What do you think about his appointment?

The first offering under this deal is expected to launch in 2026.

Following Coupang’s purchase of Farfetch, which was announced last week, the Neiman Marcus Group has decided to end its commercial partnership with Farfetch. Moncler staged a show in St. Moritz
Moncler’s Grenoble fall/winter 2024 collection was a true snowy fairytale that took place in the forest of St Moritz. The brand described it as "a gathering and mingling of different worlds, overcoming technical challenges and fostering an idea of winter style that is confident in its elegance and sophistication," according to Harper’s Bazaar. Remo Ruffini, Moncler’s chairman and CEO, has called St Moritz his spiritual ‘second home’, having wintered in the resort since childhood, says the magazine.

Gucci Cruise 2025 show in London
Following his first womenswear and menswear collections for Gucci, which were introduced last September and this January respectively, Sabato de Sarno is now preparing his first cruise collection and chose to present it in London. In a statement to WWD, the company said the city “pays tribute to Gucci’s profound connection to the British capital, intrinsically linked to the brand’s heritage”. Indeed, you might remember that the founder Guccio Gucci started as a luggage porter and lift boy at the London hotel The Savoy in the late 1890s.
Jacquemus to celebrate 15th-anniversary in Capri + receive the Innovation Award
Famous for staging his fashion shows in the South of France where he was born and raised, Simon Porte Jacquemus chose to present his next show on June 10 at Casa Malaparte, the modernist Italian villa in Capri. This will be a special event since the brand will celebrate its 15th anniversary, and it will be the first time that Casa Malaparte hosts a fashion show; Jacquemus chose it in tribute to one of his favorite movies, “Le Mépris” by Jean-Luc Godard, which was shot there.
In other news about Jacquemus, the designer will receive during the upcoming Paris Fashion Week the 2024 Neiman Marcus Award for Innovation in the field of fashion. According to WWD, Neiman recognizes the designer for “distinct show presentation, marketing and merchandising” and a “revolutionary approach to brand building”. We think Jacquemus deserves very much this Award. How about you?
