Welcome to a new week of 365 days of fashion! As we are in the middle of fashion week, we’ve got an exciting topic for you today: how fittings work during fashion shows.
Part 1: Days/weeks before the show
Think of fittings as a rehearsal moment before the big day (aka show day), when the fashion team and the models gather together to decide what each model will be wearing for the show and try on the outfits. Fittings take place prior to the day of the show, and depending on the brand, it can be days or weeks before.
It usually happens like this. When the models arrive, the designer arranges a line-up, deciding which model will best suit each design. Alternatively, the brand will already have assigned the outfits before the rehearsal, and models will just have to try them on.
Every professional who has a say on the collection and the models attends the rehearsal. Usually, the designer and the stylist are always there to see what their vision of the outfit looks like in real life, and personally ensure that the clothes and accessories look nice and fit right. The casting director is also present because they booked all the models for the show, as well as a tailor or seamstress in case the garments need some alternations.
The models are then called individually to the dressing area where they try on the look and then show it to the fashion team who can make minor adjustments if necessary. The organizers and designers/stylists then take photos of each look they will later share with the backstage dressers and explain how the full looks need to be styled: clothes, shoes, and accessories.
