What's happening in the industry this week?💚
Kering's restructuring: Bizzarri is leaving Gucci and YSL CEO Bellettini is becoming Deputy CEO of Kering.
Everyone is talking about the Kering shake up this week. The luxury group which owns Gucci, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga… reported that Marco Bizzarri the CEO of Gucci is leaving in September. This has definitely been the news of the week, but why?
Shortly because when Marco Bizzarri arrived at Gucci he and Alessandro Michele (who left the brand in November 2022) revolutionized the brand bringing it to the top of the industry. So it always makes big news when those people who did so much for the brand, leave. From 2015 to 2019, Gucci experienced a remarkable surge in revenues, nearly doubling their previous figures. Profits quadrupled, propelling the label to come close to the leading position held by sector leader Louis Vuitton.
At the same time, changes in fashion are inevitable. But the exit of Bizzarri is not the only thing that raised the fuss. Kering has also announced that the current CEO of Saint Laurent Francesca Bellettini who joined in 2013 ( so 2 years before Bizzarri joined Gucci) will become Deputy CEO of the entire Kering group, therefore the luxury conglomerate has externalized that a restructuring of the group is underway. Under Bellettini leadership, YSL experienced considerable success and growth. In 10 years the label’s revenue has grown from approximately €500 million to €2.52 billion in 2021.
Lelio Gavazza is the new CEO of Tom Ford Fashion
The current executive vice president, of sales and retail at jeweler Bulgari, Lelio Gavazza, has been appointed by The Ermenegildo Zegna Group as the new CEO of Tom Ford Fashion, effective September 18. He will be in charge of the whole brand’s fashion business, from collection development to merchandising, through production as well as retail and wholesale distribution.
Tom Ford was acquired by The Estée Lauder Cos. last November. In April, the company appointed Guillaume Jesel as president and CEO of Tom Ford, and Peter Hawkings as creative director of Tom Ford Fashion.
Balenciaga returns to its original headquarters
Balenciaga announced it's moving from its current headquarters at 40, rue de Sevres in Paris to the historic 10 Avenue George V where founder Cristóbal Balenciaga established his house in 1937 and lived, worked, and held collection presentations there until his retirement in 1968. The brand doubled the size of its couture salons and added new offices for creative director Demna and his teams. The spaces should be ready by the end of this year or in early 2024.
Demna Gvasalia started the transition to the new headquarters back in 2021 where he presented his first couture collection, and opened a couture store downstairs.

Maison Rocha’s fashion division will be owned by Interparfums
The company said on Wednesday that the Rochas fashion ready-to-wear line — including all of its marketing, communications and licensing activities — will be totally managed by Interparfums, which currently has no fashion holding other than Rochas, according to WWD.
Interparfums first bought the Rochas fashion and fragrance business from Procter & Gamble Co. in 2015 for $108 million, however, over the past two years, the brand was run and produced by HIM Co SpA — High Italian Manufacturing company based in Bergamo, Italy. HIMCO will keep producing Rochas fashion under the brand’s new ownership by Interparfums.

In a new funding round, Skims raised $270 million with the help of both new and existing investors, catapulting the brand toward crossing $1 billion in sales this year, according to Fashionista.
PETA calls Hermes to stop producing crocodile-skin Birkins
The animal rights group is asking the French luxury house to retire the crocodile skin versions of the Birkin Bag and commit to a corporate policy against the use of exotic skins.
Jane Birkin, who came up with the idea of the bag with former Hermes CEO Jean-Louis Dumas in 1981, had asked the luxury house in July 2015 to remove her name from the crocodile skin handbags, but the two have reached an agreement to continue to use her name on all versions of the bag.
Hearst Magazines cut 41 members of its staff
The decision was taken due to the latest restructuring for the magazine publisher that includes Cosmopolitan, Elle, Seventeen and Harper’s Bazaar. Seventeen editor-in-chief Kristin Koch will exit in September, after which the magazine will be put under the purview of Cosmopolitan editor Jessica Giles.
