A recap of Haute Couture Spring Summer 2024
The couture season is always my favorite 💖It’s when fashion reaches its peak of creativity.
Schiaparelli opened the Couture parade with a collection dubbed “Schiaparalien”. As the name suggests, it was a futuristic collection that had many viral tech moments, such as the “motherboard” dress and the robot baby, both made of pre-2007 computer parts and Swarovski crystals. To examine the relationship between humans and technology, and pay homage to the house’s passion for space, Daniel Roseberry’s show was inspired by Elsa Schiaparelli’s uncle, Giovanni Schiaparelli, who was the director of the Brera Observatory in Milan, where he discovered a new series of channels on the surface of Mars in 1877.
Simone Rocha was the guest designer of Jean Paul Gaultier this Haute Couture season. She reprised his iconic cone bra and flattened it to give a more feminine and romantic take on this piece.
One of the cutest “Me and the mini-me” looks we’ve seen was at Valentino’s couture show this week, when Kylie Jenner made an appearance with her daughter Stormi. Following the big show at the Chateau de Chantilly last year, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli’s latest couture runway “Le Salon” was an intimate affair, staged at the brand’s salons on Place Vendome in Paris. “I want the kind of crowd that used to be in the salon de couture when couture was born, but with different kinds of clothes that belong to this time, because I want all of this process of couture to become contemporary,” he reported to WWD.
Staged at the Grand Palais in Paris, the Chanel spring-summer 2024 haute couture collection designed by Virginie Viard “Le Bouton” focused on the button, “an object as utilitarian as ornamental, into the world of ballet and dance,” said the brand.
Viktor & Rolf’s latest couture collection “Scissorhands” proposed 28 all-black, signature silhouettes, shown in 7 groups of 4. The brand wanted to show the experimental of couture and not just the perfect final result, saying that “Each of which investigates the creative (im)possibilities of a pair of tailor's scissors, when used spontaneously to experiment with decorative cutting.”
How about you? Which couture shows were your favorite?

Alaïa presented its Spring-Fall 2024 collection
Alaïa staged its latest Spring-Fall 2024 outside of the traditional fashion calendar. It took place on Tuesday, at Alaïa’s boutique on Rue de Marignan in Paris. Creative director Pieter Mulier designed the collection with a single merino wool yarn, which was developed over a year.
Michael Burke is the new CEO of LVMH Fashion Group
The luxury conglomerate announced this week the appointment of Michael Burke as chairman and CEO of its fashion group, effective February 1. In this new role, Burke is succeeding Sidney Toledano, who held the position since 2018 and will become an advisor to Bernard Arnault.
Michael Burke has previously held the position of CEO of Christian Dior, Fendi, Bulgari, and recently (for over a decade) as Chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton.

More than 400 staffers at Condé Nast, the parent company of prestigious publications including Vogue, Vanity Fair, and GQ, went on a 24-hour walk-strike in front of the Condé Nast offices at One World Trade Center in New York City on January 23, 2024, as a sign of protest against the layoff announcement made on November 1 last year.
Vestiaire Collective launched a crowdfunding
According to Reuters, the fashion resale platform launched a crowdfunding campaign on Tuesday to raise at least one million euros from individual investors as it aims to become profitable by year-end and potentially go public. The crowdfunding is priced at 1.78 euros ($1.94) per share, valuing Vestiaire Collective at 1.1 billion euros ($1.20 billion). Anyone over the age of 18 in Europe and the UK can participate.
Levi’s is suing Brunello Cucinelli

Kim Kardashian returned as Balenciaga’s new brand ambassador
Kim has previously collaborated with the historic French house for many years but after the controversial advertising campaign released in Nov. 2022, featuring children modeling BDSM-inspired products, which was followed by a major public relations crisis, she said she was “re-evaluating” her previous sponsorship deal with the brand, according to BoF. “For several years now, Balenciaga’s designs have been a part of my many looks – and some of my most iconic fashion moments,” said Kardashian in the statement. “I’m excited about this next chapter for the brand.”
Barbie book
If you want to see more of Barbie after the big movie phenomenon, there is a new book coming up, Barbie: The World Tour, which will be published by Rizzoli on March 8, 2024.
"This book is the culmination of tens of thousands of hours of work by some of the most talented and creative visionaries and designers on Earth," said Margot Robbie’s stylist, Andrew Mukamal. It will include pictures from Margot’s press tour, shot by the famous fashion photographer Craig McDean, rare photos of Mattel, and more surprises.
Dolce & Gabbana's new exhibition
The Palazzo Reale in Milan will host the first exhibition dedicated to Dolce & Gabbana. Titlted Dal cuore alle mani, it will explore the artistic and creative history of the two designers of the Italian house. The exhibition will be open from April 7 to July 31, 2024, before leaving for an international tour.
