Here is what happened in August during our absence…
Tapestry acquired Capri Holdings in a $8.5 billion deal that brings Tapestry’s Coach, Kate Spade and Stuart Weitzman with Capri’s Michael Kors, Versace and Jimmy Choo.
Australian luxury brand Zimmermann sold a majority stake to Advent International, one of the world’s largest private equity investors.
A group of U.K.-based celebrity stylists joined for the first time to form the Celebrity Stylist Union to demand better pay and working conditions.
Clare Waight, the former creative director of Chloé and Givenchy has created a new line for Uniqlo, Uniqlo: C that launched for autumn/winter 2023.
Ralph Lauren introduced the 888 handbag collection inspired by New York architecture.
Marc Jacobs Beauty is back (it launched in 2013 and was paused in 2021) under a new contract with beauty conglomerate Coty.
Vogue unveiled its long-awaited September issue with the original supermodels on the cover - Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, and Naomi Campbell.
September couldn’t start stronger, as it’s when the new fashion week season begins. If you are as excited as we are and want to know the dates to not miss your favorite shows, here is the official calendar of the Spring Summer 2024 shows of ‘The Big Four’, unveiled by The Council of Fashion Designers of America:
September 8 – 13, 2023: New York Fashion Week
September 15 – 19, 2023: London Fashion Week
September 19 – 25, 2023: Milan Fashion Week
September 25 – October 3, 2023 – Paris Fashion Week
Among all the different shows planned, there are two that particularly stand out and are very awaited, as they will mark the debut of two creative directors: Peter Hawkings for Tom Ford on September 21, and Sabato de Sarno for Gucci on September 22, both showing during Milan Fashion Week.
On one hand, Hawking’s collection will mark a transition after Tom Ford's long years at his eponymous label he launched in 2005 and sold to Estée Lauder Companies for $2.8 billion in November 2022; Ford staged his last women’s ready-to-wear collection in April this year. On the other hand, Alessandro Michele left Gucci last November as well after revamping the brand since 2015, and Sabato de Sarno became his successor.
So there are high expectations of their upcoming collections and questions about how the brands will look like under the artistic direction of Peter Hawkings and Sabato de Sarno. We will discover that later this month…
What's happening in the industry this week?💚
To continue the topic of fashion week, these are some of the upcoming events.
Highsnobiety revealed its ‘Neu York’ initiative
The media and lifestyle company has big plans for New York Fashion Week. It recently revealed its “Neu York” initiative debuting on September 7, which includes a pop-up shop, events, and shoppable experiences. “Coming from the digital space, we have a large community and it’s key for us to meet them in the physical space to go beyond what we do online. That’s why these kinds of projects are so key for us,” said Hendrik Jürgens, vice president of brand energy at Highsnobiety to WWD.
While this is the company’s first initiative for NYFW, it has hosted pop-ups before for Paris Fashion Week, Milan Design Week, and Berlin Fashion Week, among other events.
Calzedonia will stage a “Legs Show” in Milan
After its debut in Paris last year, Calzedonia will be staging its second Calzedomania show on September 19 during Milan Fashion Week, with live performances and events dedicated to tights. The “Legs Show” will follow a “Legs Casting” that will kick off on September 9 through a dedicated landing page on the brand’s website and promoted through marketing activities throughout the city, as WWD reports.

Tremaine Emory is leaving Supreme
The creative director has resigned after a year and a half at Supreme over allegations that “systematic racism was at play within the structure of Supreme,” according to a letter of resignation seen by BoF.
Adidas vs Thom Browne lawsuit continues
Remember Adidas’ lawsuit against Thom Browne for the four stripes trademark infringement? Although Adidas lost the battle in January, news came recently that the German sportswear giant has appealed its loss in the trial. The process could take a lot of time, so to be continued…
Mugler ends See Now, Buy Now Model
The French fashion house will be back on the Paris Fashion Week calendar for a spring 2024 show on October 2, reserving the traditional ‘See Now, Buy Now’ model on which it has been operating since 2020 only for select product drops and collaborations. Creative director Casey Cadwallader plans to develop and sell 4 collections a year, including 2 new pre-collections.
Kylie Jenner is the new face of Acne Studios
Kylie Jenner fronted Acne Studios’ Fall 2023 denim campaign, unveiled on Thursday and photographed by Carlijn Jacobs and styled by Leopolda Duchemin. The campaign features Kylie "Adorned with body paint reflecting this season's denim washes — an evolution of the fabric at the heart of Acne Studios," the brand shared in an Instagram post.
JW Anderson is curating a Pigeon Bags exhibition in London
Titled “On Foot,” the exhibition at a London art gallery Offer Waterman (September 18 - October 28) will include the works Anderson does for his signature brand JW Anderson, and the Spanish luxury house Loewe, with installations celebrating various aspects of London, according to a statement provided exclusively to WWD. Hamilton, a frequent collaborator with Anderson, has teamed with the designer to create a limited edition of his pigeon bags that you have probably seen on the TV show “And Just Like That.”
What’s new in beauty 💄
Lancôme x Louvre collaboration
Lancôme and the Louvre Museum in Paris joined forces for a surprising, yes, but stunning “French girl beauty” collaboration. The six-piece, limited-edition of cosmetics including the luxury beauty brand’s existing best-sellers, as well as new products, presented in Louvre-inspired packaging, is available starting today. The campaign is fronted by Zendaya, Amanda Seyfried, He Kong, and Aya Nakamura.
According to Fashionista, the idea was “to reposition the spotlight traditionally put on male artists onto the women who inspired them”, said Rachelle Mladjenovic, Lancôme's head of marketing. "There's a lot of tragedy in art pieces, and we wanted to represent the good stories of women," she told Fashionista. "When we read the profiles of the women who inspired these statues, we instantly said, 'She's a Lancôme girl.' We didn't want to just pick the most famous [artist] or the most well-known [muse], we wanted to pick the most powerful."
Fashion Career Tip of the Week
Many of you often ask me what skills or experiences you can build up to have more chances to land your dream role in fashion. While many of you focus on technical skills to acquire to become more employable, something that maybe you didn’t consider is the fact that employers will look beyond your technical skills. While those are great to have in your skillset, they are not everything.
Put simply, companies prefer hiring people with the right attitudes and mindset more than someone with 3 fashion degrees and a master’s but with the wrong attitudes and mindset. Why? Technical skills can be taught on the job, but your mindset and your attitude won’t likely and it’s the part that contributes to the success of an employer. If you have the right mindset, you’ll face any challenge and task with the right attitude that will place you in a position to succeed rather than focusing on problems and drama.
Having the right mindset and attitude contributed successfully to my chances of breaking into fashion so quickly. Want to make a real difference in your applications and land the fashion job of your dreams too?

Are you passionate about fashion photography?
When it comes to the history of fashion, it is fascinating not only for designers, iconic pieces, and stories in magazines but also for its photography. Its most memorable part started in the 1920s with the first fashion photographers including Edward Steichen, Martin Munkacsi, Horst P.Horst, and Lee Miller, followed by post-war photographers Richard Avedon, Norman Parkinson, Cecil Beaton, Barry Lategan, Guy Bourdin, Helmut Newton, and more contemporary photographers, such as Peter Lindbergh, Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Meisel, Mario Testino, and Annie Leibovitz. I am sure you have seen at least some of their photographs that graced the pages of notorious magazines.
