What happened in the industry this week? 💚
A recap of Men’s Fall Winter 2024 shows in Milan and Paris
The fashion month officially kicked off in Milan with Men’s FW24 Fashion Week which took place on January 12-16, and these are some highlights to remember.
Following his debut Spring Summer 2024 show last September, Sabato De Sarno unveiled his first menswear collection for Gucci, which was similar in aesthetic to the latest ready-to-wear collection.
Stone Island staged its inaugural runway show since the launch of the Italian label in 1982, so it was a milestone in the brand’s history.
Paris Men’s FW24 fashion week is still ongoing until Jan.24 and we already saw some interesting shows.
At the center of attention this month is Louis Vuitton and its men's creative director Pharrell Williams. Unveiled at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris’ Bois de Boulogne, his collection was an ode to the American West. The Western theme was quite unexpected for Louis Vuitton and brought a fresh perspective to the luxury house. What did you think about it?
Givenchy staged its first runway show since the departure of Matthew M Williams late last year and was designed by an in-house team, as the new creative director wasn’t announced yet. The show took place at Givenchy’s headquarters at the Hôtel de Caraman in Paris.
Rick Owens hosted his latest men’s show at his home in Paris. It was called ’Porterville’ - a reference to the Californian city where the designer was born and raised.
What were your favorite men’s shows so far?
In other news:
Timberland x Louis Vuitton
Pharrell Williams, Louis Vuitton Men's Creative Director, and Timberland released a shoe collaboration, which was unveiled during the recent Men’s FW24 show in Paris. At the center of the collab is a 6-inch boot, which has both brands’ logos on the tongue and an LV monogram pattern on the inside or outside, depending on the model.
Pucci released a yoga collection
According to WWD, Pucci had the idea to create a yoga capsule “to celebrate the lifestyle approach embedded in the Florentine brand established in 1947” and also because it is “one of artistic director Camille Miceli’s favorite activities”. The collection includes yoga essentials, such as leggings, T-shirts, crop tops, a sweatshirt, and bikini sets, all featuring Pucci’s iconic Marmo (marble) print in shades of blue.
Dior relaunched the Chiffre Rouge men’s watch line
The Dior Chiffre Rouge, launched in 2004 and paused in 2015, is returning. The new men’s watch collection, comprised of 8 models, (fun fact: it was the founder Christian Dior’s lucky number) will drop in stores on Feb.12. In addition, a further release is planned in July and the final two will launch in October.
Bulgari’s new eyewear collection with Thélios
Last May, Bulgari announced its partnership with Thelios to produce and distribute Bulgari’s eyewear (Thelios is owned by LVMH and takes care of the eyewear production for the group’s luxury brands including Dior, Fendi, etc.) As the deal comes into effect this month, succeeding the luxury brand’s former licensee EssilorLuxottica since 1996, Bulgari introduced its first eyewear collection produced and distributed by Thélios.
Kim Kardashian is relaunching makeup
Skkn by Kim Makeup is set to launch on Jan.26 with a collection of lip liners, lipsticks, and an eye shadow palette, all in shades of nude.
Skkn by Kim was first unveiled in 2022, debuting with a skincare line.
This is not Kim Kardashian’s first entry into makeup. To recall, she entered the beauty industry with her sisters Kourtney and Khloe by launching Khroma Beauty, later renamed Kardashian Beauty, which didn’t last. In 2017 Kim introduced KKW Beauty and KKW Fragrance but closed both brands in 2022.
Uniqlo is suing Shein
Uniqlo is accusing Shein of copying its Round Mini Shoulder Bag, which was voted as one of the hottest products of 2023 by Lyst and went viral on TikTok. The brand requested the Chinese retailer’s operators “to cease production of the "imitation products" immediately and compensate Uniqlo for damages,” according to Fashionista.
Chanel exhibition goes to Shanghai
After debuting at the Palais Galliera in Paris in 2020 and stopping at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London last year (running until Feb. 25), the “Gabrielle Chanel. Fashion Manifesto” retrospective about the life of the iconic fashion designer is continuing its international tour, traveling to Shanghai this summer. The exhibition will be hosted by the Power Station of Art from July 12 to Nov.24.
