What happened in the industry this week? 💚
Davide Renne passed away
The freshly appointed creative director at Moschino died on November 10, only 9 days into the role. We are saddened by his passing and that we didn’t get to see his first collection for Moschino, scheduled for February 2024.
Earlier on November 10, Moschino’s parent company Aeffe reported a loss and a decrease in revenues in the first 9 months of the year, which was mainly attributed to the reorganization at Moschino and a general slowdown. The net loss amounted to 17.8 million euros, compared with a net profit of 4.7 million euros in the same period last year, according to WWD.
Karlie Kloss acquired i-D magazine
The model and entrepreneur acquired the publication from Vice Media which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. Founded in 1980 by former British Vogue art director Terry Jones, i-D is the second legacy magazine for Karlie Kloss, who led a consortium of investors that purchased W Magazine in 2020. Alastair McKimm, who has led i-D since 2019, will become chief creative officer and global editor-in-chief.
Edward Enninful will receive the Trailblazer Award at Fashion Awards
The editor-in-chief of British Vogue, soon to become global creative and cultural adviser of Vogue next year, has been named the recipient of the Trailblazer Award at this year’s Fashion Awards, taking place on December 4 in London, the British Fashion Council reportedly said on Tuesday.
The Trailblazer Award was created in 2018 to celebrate leading innovators and creatives in fashion, whose work in the past year has significantly shaped the industry. Previous winners of the Trailblazer Award include Alessandro Michele in 2021, and Sarah Burton in 2019.
Louis Vuitton renewed the contract of Nicolas Ghesquière
As the designer celebrates his 10th anniversary as Louis Vuitton’s artistic director of women’s collections, the brand has renewed his contract for another 5 years. Louis Vuitton’s chairman and chief executive officer Pietro Beccari said to WWD that Nicolas Ghesquière “is one of the best talents in terms of creative direction,” adding that he is “very directional, able to anticipate the future, to understand trends and to create trends”. What do you think about this decision?
Vestiaire Collective bans more fast fashion brands
The resale platform is stepping up a fast fashion ban announced last year, blocking 30 new brands including Gap, H&M, and Zara from its resale platform, according to BoF, adding that “more than 30,000 active sellers will be impacted by Vestiaire’s new policy and over 100,000 items have been removed from the platform in order to implement it.” The goal is “to address [...] overconsumption and overproduction,” said Dounia Wone, chief impact officer of Vestiaire Collective. But it’s not only environmental but also business reasons that are being discussed, as “the focus on higher-value products does also mean more commission per sale”. Do you think that resale platforms help to address sustainability issues?
Balmain introduced a virtual fit experience
The French luxury brand Balmain and fashion tech firm Bods launched on Wednesday a 3D digital styling and try-on experience on the Balmain website. According to WWD, “clients will be able to create 3D avatars matching their measurements and virtually slip into a selection of photorealistic Balmain designs capturing the brand’s textiles, tones and embellishments in addition to the cuts.” This way, the brand addresses a double goal of “reducing the label’s carbon footprint while enhancing the consumer experience,” said Balmain chief executive officer Jean-Jacques Guével.
Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel couture collection to be sold at an auction
Real-estate entrepreneur Mouna Ayoub is planning to sell a collection of 252 haute couture garments designed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel between the 1990s and 2014. The public can view them for free on Sunday and Monday, while the public Maurice Auction will take place live on Monday at 6:30 p.m. and online at drouot.com and invaluable.com.
A new TV show about Dior and Chanel is coming up
Apple TV is releasing on February 14 a new TV show - The New Look - and yes it’s about Christian Dior but also his eternal rival Coco Chanel. Starring Ben Mendelsohn and Juliette Binoche in the roles of two fashion icons, the series dives into the fashion scene during World War II and "focuses on the pivotal moment in the 20th century when [Paris] led the world back to life through its fashion icon, Christian Dior," according to director Todd A. Kessler. We will also see Dior’s contemporaries, including Yves Saint Laurent, ristóbal Balenciaga, Hubert de Givenchy, Pierre Balmain and Pierre Cardin. The show was filmed exclusively in Paris, so it’s promising to be beautiful. Are you excited about it?
A new Givenchy book was released
If you love Givenchy, you have an opportunity to learn more about it in a new 632-page book. “Givenchy Catwalk, The Complete Collections”, coauthored by fashion historian Alexandre Samson, who is a curator at Paris’ Palais Galliera museum, and fashion critic Anders Christian Madsen, retraces the history of the iconic house through Haute Couture and ready-to-wear collections from its debut in 1952 to today. The English version is already available, while French and Italian versions will be released later in November.
Coperni created a limited-edition Evian
The intersection between fashion and technology is seen in a new project between the French mineral water brand Evian and fashion label Coperni, which released a limited-edition glass bottle featuring a constellation design that can only be viewed by glimpsing through a peephole. Now this is as close as we can see it:

Fashion Career Tip of the Week
Struggling with landing a job or internship in fashion?
Are you applying for many positions but not getting results?
You might be making one or all of the common fashion job application mistakes.
If you think your lack of fashion degree or experience is the problem, well, it’s not. You might be surprised but fashion school graduates and those with experience also struggle to get a job in fashion.
It’s no longer enough to just add another prestigious fashion degree to your resume to land your dream role. The point is – how good you are at convincing the recruiters. How good your applications are?
As a fashion career mentor, I review many fashion job applications, so I thought it was useful to share what are the most common job application mistakes so perhaps you can spot yours and start using the correct strategies.
