What happened in the industry this week? 💚
Happy Friday! The fashion month is over so we are back with our regular news. Many interesting things happened in the industry this week. Let’s take a look.
Céline is launching a beauty line
LVMH-owned brand announced this week the launch of Céline Beauty. The new line will start with the lipstick “Rouge Triomphe”, debuting this fall, and a full line of 15 satin-finished colors is planned for January 2025.
This is a mega project in the Maison’s 80-year history. Céline Beauty is the first extension of creative director Heidi Slimane, who launched the haute parfumerie collection in 2019.
Lipsticks won’t be the only makeup available as each season, Céline will unveil new beauty collections including lip balms, mascaras, eye pencils, powders, and nail polishes.
Chioma Nnadi’s first cover for British Vogue is out
Chioma Nnadi was appointed Head of editorial content of British Vogue last October and officially started her role this month, following Edward Enninful’s recent departure from the magazine, to which he said goodbye with his last March 2024 cover.
For her inaugural issue, Nnadi chose musician, dancer, and model FKA Twigs to feature on the cover. The April issue will be available via digital download and on newsstands from March 19.
We wish Chioma Nnadi good luck with her new venture at British Vogue and look forward to following her creative work at the glossy publication.
Walter Chiapponi is leaving Blumarine
Roughly a few weeks after he presented his debut collection for Blumarine, the creative director Walter Chiapponi announced this week that he will be leaving the brand. “I now want to concentrate on new initiatives and projects with a social and humanitarian scope before returning at a later date, at the right time, to the catwalk,” he explained in a statement to WWD.
A French bill to place penalties on fast fashion products was approved
Lawmakers in the lower house of the French parliament approved a bill that would place gradually increasing penalties on products sold by fast fashion brands, including Shein.
"This evolution of the apparel sector towards ephemeral fashion, combining increased volumes and low prices, is influencing consumer buying habits by creating buying impulses and a constant need for renewal, which is not without environmental, social and economic consequences," the bill reads.
According to Reuters and France24, penalties will start at 5 euros per item and rise to 10 euros or up to 50% of the price tag by 2030.
TikTok could be banned in the US
The US House of Representatives passed a bill that could lead to the sale of the app or its total ban in the country. TikTok is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, and according to the press, lawmakers are worried that China could collect personal data on or influence its 170 million American users. The bill will be reviewed by the US Senate, so we will see what happens next.
Inditex’s sales rose 11%
According to Reuters, sales of the Spanish retailer jumped 11% at constant currencies in the first half of its spring season. Reuters says that Inditex “has widened its lead over Sweden’s H&M thanks to its ability to deliver trends faster from nearby suppliers and sell more clothes at higher prices,” adding that “That has also helped it counter fast-growing Chinese rival Shein”.
Mango’s revenue jumped 20%
The Barcelona-based retailer reported its turnover surpassed 3.1 billion euros in 2023, up 20% at constant exchange, according to WWD. In addition, Mango “has outlined an ambitious growth plan with a target of 4 billion euros in sales by 2026,” as well as plans to open 500 new stores by 2026.
Julia Roberts x Chopard
Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s Copresident and artistic director, and Julia Roberts unveiled a capsule collection of haute joaillerie. The three-piece capsule pays tribute to Chopard’s Insofu emerald and includes a ring, a necklace, and a pair of earrings from a selection of the Insofu cut emeralds, WWD reports. The luxury jewelry collection will be sustainable, as each piece is made in Fairmined-certified ethical rose gold.
Dior chose Scotland for its next Cruise show
The luxury brand will showcase its next Cruise 2025 collection on June 3 in the gardens of Drummond Castle in Scotland. Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri is famous for staging fashion shows in locations that had a special meaning for Christian Dior. After the Cruise 2024 show staged in Mexico City last year, this year’s location is an homage to the founder’s love for Scotland which inspired him to create a look called “Ecosse” from his debut collection in 1947.
Dior is launching a new book
Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri is releasing a new book on scarves. “Dior Scarves. Fashion Stories” features 425 designs spanning from founder Christian Dior to the present day.
“I am thrilled to have fulfilled my dream of producing a book on Dior scarves. I have a personal relationship with scarves,” Chiuri shared in a statement to WWD.
Priced at $100, the 760-page book will launch worldwide on March 28, and in the U.S. on May 14. It will be available in English and French.

The supermodel gave more details about her upcoming exhibition “Naomi”, which will run from June 22 to April 6, 2025, at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
In a sneak peek shared with the press, Campbell said the exhibit will be divided into sections that trace back her four-decade career in the fashion industry: "Becoming Naomi," "Supermodel," "Azzedine Alaïa," "New York," "The Spotlight," "Exemplar," "Alchemy," and "Archetype"). In addition, the exhibition will feature designer looks from her career, including pieces by Jean Paul Gaultier, Azzedine Alaïa, Alexander McQueen, Gianni and Donatella Versace, Virgil Abloh, Yves Saint Laurent, Fashionista reports.

Sabato de Sarno worked on a project called “Design Ancora” that will be staged at Gucci’s Via Montenapoleone flagship and run from April 15 to 21 during the international furniture and design trade show Salone del Mobile in Milan. According to WWD, the project will showcase a special edition of five objects “from a bygone era that are symbols of Italianity, and even more so of Milananness, with the intention of representing contemporaneity through the interpretation of their iconicity,” stated Gucci.
