Burberry's new Creative Director, Met Gala 2023, Social Media to Get a Job in Fashion
plus the updated list of fashion jobs and internships
This is Inside Fashion a newsletter brought to you by Glam Observer that each week covers behind-the-scenes of fashion, industry news, career advice, profiles to follow, jobs and more!
Fashion weeks are giving us truly exceptional moments. In all 4 capitals, we are seeing an explosion of fashion. Spectacular collections in all the big four without exception, which hadn't happened for years. It’s been a pleasure following each collection.
And also this week, the industry entertains us with many news, two are quite big: Daniel Lee who created iconic products for Bottega Veneta bringing it back among the most-wanted fashion brand, has been appointed creative director of Burberry replacing Riccardo Tisci.
Born in Bradford, England, Daniel Lee graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2011 and held roles at Maison Margiela , Balenciaga and Donna Karan before joining Céline in 2012 under Phoebe Philo. Six years later, Lee was named creative director of Bottega Veneta in June 2018.
Lee is considered to have reinvented Bottega Veneta, which was known for its super-luxurious leather and signature woven accessories. Among his famous products we can find a lot of bags and shoes: the Cassette bag, the Pouch bag, Bottega Green, the Lido Sandal, the Stretch Sandal, Jodie Bag, Puddle Boots, and many more, which quickly became the “it” bags and “it shoes”.
During his career at Bottega Veneta, Daniel Lee received many awards, such as Womenswear Designer of the Year, Accessories Designer of the Year and Designer of the Year – all at the Fashion Awards 2019. But in November 2021, Lee stepped down from his position as creative director at Bottega Veneta, and now that he took over the role at Burberry, many are wondering whether he will also revolutionize this brand.
So, will we be seeing a lot of new creations at Burberry that will become in-demand, such as we saw at Bottega Veneta?
In addition, just this morning in Paris, Anna Wintour and Pharrell Williams in Karl Lagerfeld's photo studio announced the theme of the Met Costume Insitute Exhibition and therefore Met Gala 2023 theme: Karl Lagerfeld: A line of beauty. This exhibition is expected to be iconic. Read more here
What's happening in the industry this week💚?
Ib Kamara’s first collection for Off-White
The art and image director of Off-White Ib Kamara, appointed in April of this year, presented his first collection during Paris Fashion Week. The signature electric blue color was seen across all the SS23 collection, which was titled “Celebration” in homage to the late founder Virgil Abloh, who also used the same blue color in his fall 2021 show. Ib Kamara said he wanted to create a “blue universe”, inspired by the human body, so his designs presented a lot of anatomical details and flowers, which for Kamara is a symbol of fragility.
Ib Kamara is still editor in chief of the digital magazine “Dazed” (so yep he can successfully manage two prestigious roles in fashion) where he got noticed for his strong visual storytelling and diverse cultural references and questions on gender and identity.
Balenciaga launches a resale platform
With the rising amount of brands and retailers with their own resale channels, Balenciaga joined the flow too. The luxury company is partnering with tech-and-logistics platform Reflaunt (which in case you didn’t know is also partnering with Net-a-Porter to allow users to resell their clothes)to offer customers a full-service resale experience, allowing them to sell their old Balenciaga clothing and accessories.
The secondhand market is expected to grow to $57 billion by 2025 - and that’s only in the US. While some luxury giants like Chanel and Hermès remain skeptical about resale, many other fashion companies are looking in that direction, so the controversial opinions about the benefits and the flows of the resale platforms is something to think about.
L’Oréal launches a global program “Boost” to support youth employment
The world’s leading beauty company L’Oréal launched a new program called BOOST” that will offer 20,000 students each year access to a selection of On-Demand digital courses from Coursera of the world’s most prestigious universities.
To date, l’Oréal has created 18,342 work opportunities with the previous L’Oréal For Youth program, thus, approaching the goal of creating 25,000 jobs for people under 30.
Jennifer Lopez is the new face of Intimissimi
The Italian intimates brand recently signed the famous pop star as its new global ambassador. Launched in the US market in New York City in 2017, the brand hopes that this expansion will help it to reach a new level of recognition in the US. Why? Because the Calzedonia Group (to which Intimissimi belongs) is eager to conquer the American market to offer an alternative solution of intimate apparel to the long domination of Victoria’s Secret.
What’s new in the Beauty industry 💄
Balmain and Estée Lauder launch Balmain Beauty
The French luxury label Balmain partnered with U.S. beauty group Estée Lauder to develop a line of beauty products called “Balmain Beauty”. The project should launch in fall 2024, and it is believed that the new line will pay homage to its founder, Pierre Balmain, who released a perfume in 1946.

Nice things 💖
A kind of fashion show we have never seen before. Gucci invited 68 identical twins to walk down the runway during Milan Fashion Week. The story of finding them is very interesting. In fact, Gucci had sent a secret scouting party to Twins Day, a twins convention in Twinsburg, Ohio.
And beyond that, Gucci also made a political statement by showing support to all the marginal groups. Several looks bannered FUORI! FUORI!, which, in Italian, means “out” but also is the acronym for Fronte Unitario Omosessuale Rivoluzionario Italiano (Revolutionary Homosexual Unitary Front), the group that fought for LGBTQ rights throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s in Italy.
Olivier Rousteing and Cher walking down the runway to her 1998 anthem “Strong Enough” at the latest Balmain presentation at Paris Fashion Week.
What to watch this week 🎥
This week, what about watching a documentary about Supreme Models Tracks the History of the Black Model in Fashion?
A YouTube original docuseries from Vogue and The Machine, a production company founded and led by The September Issue director R.J. Cutler, tracks the cultural history of the Black model in fashion.
Based on Marcellas Reynolds’ bestselling book Supreme Models: Iconic Black Women Who Revolutionized Fashion, the series shares personal conversations and testimonials from important figures and fashion industry icons like Iman, Bethann Hardison, Pat Cleveland, Joan Smalls, Zendaya, Zac Posen and Olivier Rousteing, accompanied by Anna Wintour and Edward Enninful.
Fashion Profiles to follow this week 👩🏻💻

Paris Fashion Week is happening right now until October 4, which means we can still enjoy more of the last (alas) runway looks of this fashion week season on our feed.
