What happened in the industry this week? 💚
Balenciaga launched Balenciaga Music
The French luxury brand has commissioned an exclusive track called “Patterns” from English band Archive, and a 7-hour playlist, marking the first time Balenciaga has created connected clothing. Launched on Monday, the track is only available via an NFC (near-field communication) chip embedded in tags sewn into Balenciaga Music | Archive limited-edition merchandise, including T-shirts and hoodies.
Phoebe Philo’s second drop to be released
Following the first drop of Phoebe Philo’s new eponymous label last month, the designer announced that the second drop of her collection, or “edit” as she calls it, will be released on November 28. Further details haven’t been announced yet, but Philo already teased the third drop, which should appear later.
Moncler and EssilorLuxottica signed a licensing agreement
The two companies announced on Wednesday they had signed an exclusive licensing agreement for the design, production, and global distribution of Moncler’s eyewear, effective January and valid until December 2028, with an automatic renewal option for an additional 5 years. The first eyewear collection is set to be released in fall 2024.
Gucci is suing retailers
The Italian luxury brand filed 3 lawsuits in Manhattan on Tuesday against Sam's Club, Century 21, and Lord & Taylor, alleging the sale of counterfeit Gucci’s products. Stay tuned for how it goes…
Antoine Arnault is leaving Berluti
Arnault is stepping down from his role as the CEO of Berluti, which he took in 2011, effective January 1, 2024. Jean-Marc Mansvelt, who has been chief executive officer of Chaumet since 2014, will take over his lead. Antoine Arnault will still Arnault will, however, remain at Berluti as the brand’s chairman.
Valentino relocates its internal academy
Valentino’s “La Bottega dell’Arte” internal academy is now relocating to a different area of the building, first established in 2015 at the brand’s storied headquarters on Piazza Mignanelli in Rome. The new area area is bigger and more well-equipped, the company shared with WWD. The relocation coincides with the kickoff of the 2023 training program edition that will teach students artisanal and craftsmanship skills to support the creation of haute couture collections.
Brunello Cucinelli’s new menswear factory
The brand is opening a new menswear manufacturing site called “bella fabbrica [beautiful factory],” in Penne, Italy, a town reputed for its production hub specializing in sartorial menswear. The new plant will be unveiled in spring 2025, covering 48,600 square feet and employing between 300 and 350 people.
Milan’s Via Montenapoleone and NY Fifth Avenue are the world’s most expensive retail venues
Fifth Avenue in New York maintains its position as the world's most expensive shopping street, as per a Cushman & Wakefield study. Via Monte Napoleone in Milan rises from third to second place with a 20% surge in retail rents to €18,000 per square meter.
Based on the Cushman & Wakefield study, the five most expensive retail venues are:

Amandine Ohayon Named CEO of Stella McCartney
Amandine Ohayon is set to become the new CEO of Stella McCartney, succeeding Gabriele Maggio. Ohayon, formerly CEO of Pronovias, YSL beauty and Armani beauty, will aim to revitalize the pandemic-affected Stella McCartney business, backed by LVMH since 2019.
Chanel is opening seasonal stores in European Ski Resorts
Chanel is expanding its winter presence by opening seasonal stores in prestigious ski resorts, including Courchevel, Megève, and Gstaad. Featuring the new Coco Neige collection (Lily-Rose Depp is the face of the campaign), the stores showcase high-tech fabrics and highlight figure skating inspiration. This move follows a trend in luxury labels entering the winter sports category, with other brands like Louis Vuitton, Balmain, and Balenciaga also introducing skiwear lines and pop-up stores.
Fashion Career Tip of the Week
Want to get a job in fashion before this year ends?
As we are getting closer to the end of 2023, you might be tempted to loosen your grip and postpone your job search until the new year. But today, I want to tell you that this is NOT the time to pause applying for fashion jobs.
In fact, I got my very first internship in fashion at Alexander McQueen on December 13th!
So if you were looking for a sign that it’s still possible to get your dream fashion job these last weeks, my recent article is the motivation you are looking for.

What to visit 👠
Dior’s new exhibition in Paris
La Galerie Dior at the brand’s historic flagship in Paris is hosting a new exhibition that celebrates the house’s collaborations with female artists, including Leonor Fini and Niki de Saint Phalle, alongside more recent works of contemporary artists including Judy Chicago, Eva Jospin, Brigitte Niedermair, Katerina Jebb and Elina Chauvet, among others. The exhibition is open from today until May 13, 2024.
Giorgio Armani has unveiled a new exhibition set to open at the Armani/Silos in Milan, on December 5.
Titled 'Aldo Fallai per Giorgio Armani, 1977-2021,' this exhibition, curated by Giorgio Armani himself in collaboration with Rosanna Armani and Leo Dell’Orco, stands as the inaugural tribute from a Milanese institution to the portfolio of the Florentine photographer Aldo Fallai. It’s on my list to visit.
