A silhouette is a contour that a garment creates when worn. It is represented as a solid shape mostly in black color, while the interior of the silhouette is mostly white, allowing you to see the structure of the overall garment.
A silhouette is usually the first thing that we notice when we see a clothing piece, besides looking at its color, texture, or fabric.
There are many different types of silhouettes: A-line, Empire, Asymmetrical, Hour-glass, Mermaid silhouette…They all emphasize different body parts. Therefore, they play an important role in fashion design to experiment and determine which silhouette would look more flattering on a person.
